Mr Mangilal Jain was the eldest son of Shri Phulchandji and Smt. Gatoobai and was born on July 14, 1931. Sri Mangilal was married to Su. Kanchanlata in the year 1948. They have two sons and a daughter.Sri Phulchandji and his father hamirmalji struggled in his earlier years. There was upswing in their business due to hard work of the father and the son. Shri Phulchandji passed away at the age of 40 years due to pneumonia.
Shri Mangilal was a student of class-III at that time. In 1947 he passed class-VIII exam at Kapason and went to Udaipur to join Class-IX at Fateta High school. Mangilalji joined RSS while he was student of Class-VI at Kapasan and he became an active Karyakarta. While being at Udaipur he went to Narayana to attend a 10 days ITC camp. After he completed Class-IX, he took his admission for Class-X at Bhilwara High school.
After completing Class-X Sri Mangilal Jain got married. However, as he was keen to peruse his studies, after passing high school exam he again went to Udaipur and joined Maharana Bhopal college. He completed I. Com on the advice of one of his teachers. He then went to Kolkata to pursue further studies. His uncle supported him on payment of fees, he arranged his maintenance with tuition. In the year 1958 he completed his C.A. exam and joined M/s. J.K. Steel & Industries Limited. In the year 1962 he joined M/s. Hindustan Gas & Industries Limited a Birla concern as Vice President.
In M/s. Hindustan Gas & Industries Limited under Birla group as Vice President, he was given charge of two units namely Structural Division & Furnace Division Both the units were running in loss. With serious efforts Sri Jain converted both the units as earning units.
As Sri B.K. Birla was happy with the performance of Sri M.L.Jain, he wanted to transfer his service to M/s. Jayshree Textiles & Industries Limited. Sri M.L. Jain was not willing to go to Jayshree because of prevailing politics there. Sri B.K. Birla called his son Sri Aditya Birla and advised him to give full powers to Sri M.L. Jain and thus his services were transferred to Jayshree Textiles in the year 1966.
Jayshree Textiles was a very old industry and due to weakness on the part of the management a number of problems crept in. Sri M.L.Jain carried-out a detailed study of the problems and prepared a detailed note. He presented this note to Sri B.K. Birla and said that so long we do not resolve these problems, it would be difficult to make the industry profitable. Sri B.K. Birla authorized Sri M.L. Jain to take necessary steps as he thought proper. Thereafter Sri Jain invited the representatives of the labor union and explained the whole matter. Since it was not possible for the labor leaders to accept all these demands, a closer notice was given to the labor unions. The working in three units at Rishra was closed and the matter was referred to Chief Labor Commissioner. Sri Jain used to discuss each point with the labor leaders every evening. It took about four months when the labor union accepted about 80% of the demands of the management which resulted in increasing the work loads and setting right the bad practices. This also resulted in reduction in the number of temporary labor and increased in the productivity. Hence the industry started running profitably.
Sri Jain joined the services of Madhya Bharat Papers as `Executive Director’. He found that the Net Worth of the company became negative. With very hard efforts of Sri Jain the working of the Mill improved considerably and it started earning profit.
Emami group also established a Paper Mill at Balasore by importing a second-hand plant. Shri R.S. Agarwal desired Shri Jain to join EPM as Executive Director in the year 1991. By this time Jain had very thorough knowledge about the working of paper Mill. At first he advised Sri R.S. Agarwal to change the pulp washing system. As the multi stage bleeching plant came in operation, the quality of paper improved and the daily production also increased.
After this Jain was inducted in the board of Emami Paper Mill as well as in the main company Emami Limited as a Director.Sri Jain had been the Swayamsevak of RSS since his early age. In the year 1973 he shifted to Kolkata and started attending RSS branch regularly. In the year 1977 he was assigned the work of serving the tribals through Vanbasi Kalyan Ashram. He established Purbanchal Kalyan Ashram with the object of starting service activities among tribals in West Bengal and Eastern Zone. He was also inducted as a member of All India working committee of Vanbasi Kalyan Ashram. The service activities in West Bengal and Eastern Zone increased considerably. However, while working he experienced that there was considerable shortage of resources and workers as well as the quality of workers in Kalyan Ashram. Therefore, the progress of work was slow. Sri Jain and Sri Madanlalji Agarwal was of the opinion that for spreading the work of services among tribals faster some new organization will have to be started.
At this time Sri Jain came in contact with Sri Shyamji Gupt during this visit to Cuttack. Sri Shyamji Gupta was Sah Prant Pracharak of Odisha. Sri Jain could see that he had tremendous organizing and planning capacity. He requested Sri Madanlalji Agarwal to contact Sri Rajubhaia, the then General Secretary of RSS to get Sri Shyamji transferred to Kalyan Ashram. With his efforts Sri Shyamji was transferred to Kalyan Ashram in the year 1986. As Sri Shyamji was working among tribals by way of organizing satsang samities, he invited some citizens from Kolkata for a vanyatra of Odisha. About 45 members went for vanyatra in Phoolwani area of Odisha for 3 days. While returning they stayed over-night at Bhubaneswar in a Dharamshala where in a programme of narrating the experience every vanyatri felt that the condition of tribals in that area was very bad and therefore something should be done in this respect. Sri Shyamji suggested to form Odisha Friends of Tribals Society for this purpose. Sri Jain suggested that instead of Odisha it should be Friends of Tribals Society for working all over the country. In this case it will be convenient to request the people to support the cause.Sri Shyamji stated that for making an All India society there were two problems. One is that it will require the permission of RSS and the second is that the permission will also be required even from Kalyan Ashram. Sri Jain took the responsibility to arrange for both the permissions and hence it was decided that after obtaining the two permissions an All India society will be formed. After returning to Kolkata Sri Jain went to Jashpur Nagar to attend the quarterly meeting of All India working committee of Kalyan Ashram. He persuaded Sri Balasaheb Deshpande the President of Kalyan Ashram and obtained his approval. At Kolkata Sri Jain alongwith Sri BImal Lath contacted Sri Baburaoji Paldekar & Sri Keshav Rao Dikshit. They convinced both of them and obtained the approval for forming Friends of Tribal Society. Thereafter Thereafter Sri Jain drafted the memorandum and articles & association of the society and got it registered under societies Registration Act. After this the Friends of Tribal Society was formerly inaugurated on January 15, 1989. Sri Jain was nominated as All India Treasurer of the society. Over a period of time the branches of this society were started not only through-out India but also in most of the countries in the world. For some-time Sri Jain was All India General Secretary of this organization. For establishing branches all over the country. Sri Jain alongwith Sri Rameshwar Lalji Kabra toured all over the country for establishing the chapters & for motivating these chapters. In 2004 Sri Jain took retirement from Emami Group & he decided to devote full-time for the work of Friends of Tribals Society
At the time of his demise, Shri Mangi Lal Jain was a Patron of Friends of Tribals Society & a member of the Advisory Board of Ekal Abhiyan trust.
